EMT and AEMT training must be completed prior to starting paramedic training.
Requirements for prospective EMS applicants
A high school diploma or GED certificate, and successfully complete an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic program that meets or exceeds the United States Department of Transportation and State of Tennessee requirements.A valid Tennessee driver’s license with F endorsement and excellent driving record.
Current BLS Healthcare provider level certification.
Paramedics must also complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
Pass BCEMS physical ability test, oral interview and written exam.
All employment is pending a negative drug screen, a background check, and a medical statement from a physician.
