On Tuesday, April 27, Bedford County Fire Department took possession of a brand new pumper manufactured by Sutphen Corp. of Columbus, Ohio. The new pumper will be based at the main BCFD station on Prince Street; the pumper it replaces will be moved to Rover as part of a new BCFD presence there, which Fire Chief Mark Thomas said will help with the county’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) fire protection ratings. On Monday, May 3, Thomas and Assistant Chief Brian Cantrell brought the new unit to the county courthouse to show Mayor Chad Graham. The new pumper is still being prepared for use by the BCFD staff and should be in full service within the next few weeks. From left ar Thomas, Graham, and Cantrell.
